The Great Annual Two-Day Show and Sale of Mule Gimmer Lambs on behalf of NEMSA saw the quality of sheep on offer throughout the sale as good as seen for many years, praise and credit must be given to our vendors. 

We also give a special thank you to all our sale day sponsors for their continued support.

 

An overall market average for the two sale days of £167.74 was achieved.

 

The trade saw buoyant bidding over both of the sale days, with buyers travelling from throughout England, Scotland and Wales to be with us. Quality top pen lambs regularly selling in excess of the £200 mark. Strong good types of tupping lambs regularly selling between £175 and £200. Strong runners and small tupping lambs regularly sold between £155 and £170. The smaller lambs met big demand regularly selling between £140 and £155.

 

MONDAY

On Monday our pre-sale judges of Robert Butterfield of Bentham and Jonjoe Morris of Northamptonshire, had a wonderful line up of 15 pens to cast their eye over. We thank them for providing their time and expertise.

The first prize pen was awarded to G&HR Shields, Ravenstonedale who were presented with the RA Fawcett Cup, a much-admired pen which went on to sell for £650.

The second prize pen presented with the RJ Cherrington Trophy was JA&R Caton, Bell Busk who were also awarded the John Chugg Memorial Trophy, for the best pen of NEMSA Gimmer Lambs in the Hawes Branch. TUESDAY    

On Tuesday the judging of the 16 pens of show lambs was conducted by Thomas Hird of Cockermouth and Robert Johnson of Harrogate, who again we thank for their time and expertise.

The first prize pen was awarded to Messrs Lord, North Stainmore who were also presented with the RA Fawcett Cup, another much admired pen which went on to sell for £750.

The second prize pen presented with the RJ Cherrington Trophy was W&D Lawson & Son, Westhouse who were also awarded the John Chugg Memorial Trophy, for the best pen of NEMSA Gimmer Lambs in the Hawes Branch. This pen of lambs saw eager bidding selling to £300.

 

The Tom Alderson Cup presented to the highest price pen of lambs consigned from the Gayle area, has been won by A & JA Iveson of East House selling a pen of 12 to £212.
