The Second Show & Sale of 8639 Gimmer Lambs comprising 8313 Mules, 30 Masham’s, 162 Cheviot Mules, 134 Continental & other Gimmer Lambs & 101 Gimmer Shearlings.

The second show and sale of mule gimmer lambs saw an increased number of 8740 lambs sold. There was an impressive line-up of 13 pens of North of England mules forward for the pre-sale show in which we thank Trevor Sharp and Callum Kettles for their time and expertise judging. A special thank you goes to the sale sponsors Capstick Insurance limited. The first prize rosette & Chester Kneller Memorial Cup was awarded to Breck House Enterprise Ltd that went onto sell for £210 purchased by the judge Mr T Sharp. The second prize rosette was awarded to J & SE Bainbridge, Newsham that went onto sell for £230. A new show class for 2024 was the Cheviot mule class in which was well supported with the first-place rosette awarded to DA & MA Brown & Son selling to £200 with others from the same home selling to £202.
Following on from the roaring trade at the first sale, it was a sale of more realisation today. Good quality lambs continue to be in big demand and eagerly bid for with quality top pens selling between £170 and £230. Good quality tupping lambs with good mule characteristics regularly sold between £140 and £170. Good running lambs regularly sold between £125 and £140. It was the lower end of the sale that were harder to place. All North of England Mules sold to a market average of £126.
The cheviot mule gimmer lambs were in big demand selling to an impressive overall market average of £163. Masham gimmer lambs from J Brown, Agglethorpe sold to £158, £150 and £140.
A handful of shearlings forward saw the consignment of Mules from G & P Middleton sell to £230, £220 and £205. Continental shearlings from J & T Hunter sold to £190 with Cheviot mules from the same home sell to £180.
